Lourdes Morante-Mieses

Lourdes is a native Spanish-speaking teacher born and raised in Lima, Perú. She has over 20 years experience in the educational field. Since her move to California in 2000, she has been teaching Spanish and has been with IES since 2014 teaching both in-curriculum and after school classes. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in radio, TV, film and theater from San Jose State University. Lourdes is a mixed media painter and exhibits her works in galleries in San Jose. She teaches art from grades K – 8 at Saint Mary’s School in Gilroy. Lourdes loves to teach Spanish because she believes that the benefits of learning a second language not only help the student’s linguistic abilities but their cognitive and creative abilities as well. Her background of art and languages allows her to incorporate all of these aspects into her classes for a well-rounded cultural experience.

 

Cecilia Guerra

Cecilia is a native of Ecuador.  She has a bachelor of arts degree in accounting and math, and a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Ecuador, in Riobamba and Quito.  She taught for 16 years in Ecuador and after moving to the US,  she has been teaching Spanish for IES since 1999.  Her teaching style is to develop and present a comprehensive and effective lesson plan to ensure that each child retains and develops their interest in learning the Spanish language.  When Cecilia is not busy teaching, she loves family gatherings and takes care of her 90 year old mother and gets to enjoy her granddaughter.

Bae Song

Bae was born and raised in mainland China. She has been teaching for IES since 2012 and is in high demand as Mandarin has become very popular to learn.  Bae has realized that being a Chinese teacher and interacting with children has made her happier and more positive. She truly believes in the gift of languages and hopes that more people are interested to learn about China and her language.

Johanne Montpetit-Garcia

Johanne was born and raised in Quebec, Canada.  She has been teaching French and Spanish for IES since 2001. She has taught many after school classes for IES and is currently an in-curriculum K-8 Spanish teacher. Sra. Garcia is also one of IES’s teacher trainers. Recently, Johanne has decided to go back to school and is currently finishing her Early Childhood Development Degree. During her free time, she enjoys gardening, biking and baking.

Magda Monica Castro

Monica Castro has been teaching Spanish for IES since 2013.   She is a bicultural and bilingual teacher from Colombia. She has been teaching Spanish for six years and enjoys tailoring the curriculum to the individual’s needs. She has worked with groups and individual students to determine their objectives, so that she can help them achieve their goals. She really loves teaching because it enriches her life. She studied English at Diablo Valley College, impressionist painting at Mt. Diablo Adult Education, and holds a degree in Advertising and Marketing from Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Colombia. When asked what she loves about teaching for IES, she says “I truly believe in the gift of languages and I praise you for giving your child the opportunity to develop these skills at an early age”.

Paula Feghhi

Paula is a truly multicultural, international woman. After earning her Bachelor’s degree from Anhembi Morumbi university in São Paulo, Paula lived in Bolivia and Spain for quite a while. She has very extensive teaching experience, teaching classes at notable schools all over the Bay Area. Paula is exceptionally gifted at working with young children, and she loves to involve elements of cultural exposure in all of her lessons. She has been teaching after school and in-curriculum classes for IES since 2004.
